Mr Richard Lewis Hargett 86, of Frederick, died on Friday, January 13, at home. Born on July 31, 1919 in Frederick, Maryland, he was the son of the late Edgar L. Hargett and Dessie M. Kefauver Hargett Mr. Hargetthad a 33-year career at the Naval Ordnance Laboratory in White Oak, Maryland. He served in the U.S, Navy during World War II. In his earlier years he served on the Frederick City Planning Board. He and his wife were in the Frederick City bicycling community and completed a Century Ride in Homestead, Fla. For a number of years, the Hargett enjoyed spending the winter months in Florida where they were long time members of the Paul Dudley White Bicycle Club of Florida. His wife, Helen Delphey Hargett whom he married on May 16, 1942, died September 12, 2005. Surviving are a son, Richard L. Hargett Jr.and wife Kathleen of Frederick; a daughter, Donna L. Gilbert and husband Thomas of Chambersburg, Pa.; two grandsons, Richard L. Hargett IIIof California and Michael Mesa of Frederick; a sister-in-law, Evelyn D. Wachter and husband Leslie; a sister-in-law, Jan V. Delphey all of Frederick; two nieces, LeAnna Wachter of Cockeysville and Sharon D. Stauffer and husband Michael of Middletown; and two great-nieces, Jessica and Danielle Stauffer of Middletown; Mr. Hargett was preceded in death by a brother, Norman Hargett and a brother-in-law, Clarence G. Delphey Jr. Private services and interment will take place in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Frederick Count
